This is our presentation about Cannabis.
History of cannabis.
Cannabis originated from the plant Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica. Er zijn The first written document of cannabis use was found in China in 2800 BC. Experts think that it was used thousands years before that already for medical, for pleasure and religious reasons. The plants originate probably from India regions. The plant in wild can grow over 5 m. high.
Difference between hash and marihuana.
If you dry the female flower tops of the plant and crumble it, you get marihuana. Marihuana is green-brown of colour. It’s generally called ‘weed’. If you press the resin of into blocks or slices, you get hash. The colour of it varies of brown to black. By special process a substance from the plant can be made: hash oil.
How the drug is used.
Cannabis is used as a drug. It’s often used for smoking. An amount of drugs is mixed with tobacco, and rolled into a cigarette. This cigarette is called a joint, spliff or doobie. Then is lit up, deeply inhaled and often share with other people. You can also eat it raw or mix it with food. It can
also be put in drinks.
By whom is the drugs used.
The interest is especially large in puberty, because then the children want to experiment with drugs. Most of the young people use the drugs only ones, or a couple of times. A smaller group continues use more often. It is more often boys than girls who smoke weed. Furthermore the use of hash and weed occurs under all age groups, ranks and scores. The number of users in the Netherlands is 408,000.
Advantages:
Mentally:
The effect of taking cannabis is you’re more relaxed, you see more colours and you hear more sounds and a feeling of haziness. This is called high or stoned.
Disadvantages
Mentally
If you take a very high dose of cannabis it can cause hallucinations and sensory distortions. Users call this often 'getting the fear'. Panic and paranoia are affects when you are depressed and you take the drugs.

-The brains. Your coordination gets mixed up and your short memory gets destroyed.
-The pressure in the eyes decreases.
-Your ears hear sounds distracted or heightened
-It also gives you a dry mouth.
-The heart is beating faster.
-It makes you feel hungry
Other affects on long term.
Memory loss? The longer you take the drugs the worse it become. You’re short memory can be affected.
Lung cancer? The risk getting lung cancer when you smoke cannabis is higher as a ‘normal’ smoker, because there’s more tar in the joint.
Cannabis and law.
To grow weed plants or to have possession op weed or hasj is punishable. In real they can’t punish people who grow 5 weed plants or who have possession of 30 grams of cannabis. If you want to buy weed legal you’ve to go to a coffee shop. There you can buy 5 gram a day. So it’s strange. You may not grow weed but how does the coffee shop get it then??
Cannabis used as a medicine.
In Holland it’s legal to use cannabis as a medicine. Only for this illnesses
- Cancer: cannabis can stop nausea brought on by chemotherapy
- AIDS: it can increase appetite and prevent weight-loss.
- Glaucoma (an eye condition): cannabis can relieve eye pressure.
- Muscular pain: it can relax the muscle
Patients who have one of these illnesses can go to the apothecary where they can buy weed for €40.-/€50 per 5 gram. They take the medicine in combination with tea. They drink and it started to work in the body.

-10% of the cannabis users blow every day.
-Cannabis in combination with alcohol can cause nausea and vomiting. This is known as a 'white' or 'spinout'. - Smoking marijuana is more popular in America than surfing the Internet
- Cannabis is not that addictive as other drugs. Mostly it’s the beginning of an addiction on hard drugs.
- People who stop blowing have mostly phenomenon’s like: bad sleeping, restless etc..
