Boekverslag: Harry's Game
Genre: Detective.
Explaining genre: Harry?s a spy, who has to solve a murder on a minister, which is committed by the IRA and kill the murderer of the minister.
Time and place: the story?s set in today somewhere in Belfast.
The principal character:
Harry Browne: He plays the main role, but he isn?t the only one who?s involved on this case (at least, at his side). He does it together with a girl called Josephine. He?s a very ?cool? man and isn?t quickly stressed by a case. I think he?s about forty years old. His eyes are dark and he has black hair.
Summary:
Somewhere in London a minister has been murdered by a man called Billy Downs, who?s from the IRA. The government of Great Britain decides to hire a spy: Harry. His mission will be killing Billy Downs. In Ireland he meets Mrs. Duncan, his companion. He presents himself as Harry McEvoy to her and says he comes from the navy. When was finished with writing himself in in the Bed and Breakfast. In the Bed and Breakfast residence he meets Josephine. She works for Mrs. Duncan. He asks her to go out sometime and she says she loved to, but that there are many arrests done by the police, who are looking for members of the IRA. A night later, the killer of the minister returns home. He softly goes to bed, but his wife wakes up. She says what she read in the paper of the killing of the minister, full of horror. The next Saturday Harry and Josephine go to disco. When they come in, the disco is full of people. When Harry asks Josephine to dance, he recognizes the face of the murderer. It's the face on the police suspect-drawing. It's the killer. At the same moment, the police comes in, and commands to stop the music. Al the man had to stand with their hands against the wall. The soldiers started to question the men, the killer spontaneously as first. The killer, named Billy Downs, says that he was in the South, with his sick mother. He said it loud, so his wife could hear it, and the soldiers took him with them. Harry was next, but they let Harry go. At the police station, Harry was questioned twice, but the policemen couldn't find anything that would him make suspect, and let him go. After this incident Josephine tells Harry that she knows a girl, who could know anything more. She was easily caught and after she was questioned and put in a cell, she killed suicide. If she hadn?t done this, the IRA would have done it, because she told a little bit too much. Than, a few days later, Josephine finds out that Harry isn?t the one as he said and so he says who he really is. Also the IRA finds this out and after some beating, Josephine tells them about Harry and that he?s the spy. Harry and Josephine would never see each other again, so Harry begins his mission: kill Billy Downs. In a car in Belfast were two men named Frank and Downs. When they got out of the car they saw Harry, and Harry saw them. Harry grabbed his gun and shot Frank. Downs escaped, and walked to his house. When he was at his house, his wife opened the door, but Harry was quicker and shot Downs in front of the eyes of his wife. Suddenly there was another shot from a gun behind Harry. The bullet hits Harry and he dies. So the bad ?nd the good ones die.
My opinion: It was the last book and with that one of the best I read this year. It wasn?t a very difficult book to read. This genre of books I like the best, especially the parts where the IRA was involved in. This was the last book and I?m glad I?m ready!
