Boekverslag: Bully
1.The Story:
The title of the story is: ?Bully?
The author is Yvonne Coppard.
2.The background of the story
In the book you can?t read exactly where and when it takes place. But with story you know that it could be in the same time as we live now. About the place where it takes place you only know that it is a small town in England.
In the story are a few very important persons:
? Kerry (the headperson )
? Billy and Wayne they (the bully?s of the school)
? June (a school friend of Kerry)
They are all in the same school and the same class they also live in the same town. The background is very important in this book, the background is told in the book, if there wouldn?t be a background in this story it wouldn?t be a good story. Then it would be a question why Kerry?s leg is not good anymore for example. Kerry?s background is that she had an accident. Billy?s background is also very important, his father is in jail, Kerry found it out, that?s the reason why she could stop the bullying.
3. The genre of the story
I think the book has 2 genres:
1. Bullying: Kelly is bullied because of her leg, she walks lame, she is new at the school so nobody knows what happened. But not only Kelly is bullied, Billy is also bullied by Kelly when she found out that his father is in jail.
2. Friendship: Kelly gets a very good friendship with June, June was helping Kerry when she was bullied. Kerry found out that friends are very important.
I think it is a realistic story, bullying happens almost everywhere. This story could happen to a person but I do think that there a lot of things happen accidentally. For example that she reads in the paper that the father of Billy is in jail when she is looking to a picture of herself(also in the paper). That?s one point that makes the book a bit less realistic.
4. The characters
In the question stood: describe no more than three of them. Use a maximum of 50 words, I wasn?t sure if it was mend like no more words than 50 for all of them or for just one person 50 words, so I did the last one.
The most important characters in the book are: (long version)
? Kerry: She is the most important person in the book, in the book you can read all of her thoughts. Kerry is a girl that is moved to a differ tent town. She gets bullied in her new class because of her leg. She is a very shy person and doesn?t stand up for herself.
? Billy: he?s is afraid that the people find out that his father is in jail. He is actually very mean he is bullying a lot of children. He thinks he is very though, he listen to nobody. The teacher where surprised that he was so sweet to Kerry.
? June: June is a very nice girl, when Kerry is new at the school she is the one that tried to be friends with her. She also tried to help Kerry to stop the bullying. Kerry is a person that is not so quick afraid, she?s a person that hits back
I would like to know Billy, I?d like to know how he really is. In the book you get the reason why he is bullying and how his situation is at home, but I?d like to know how he really is when he your friend. I don?t have an idea of a person that I don?t want to meet, there?s not a person that makes me freighted or something like that . I could think up a reason by every person in the book why I would meet someone.
5. A summary of the story?s events
Every day when Kerry?s school is out, are Billy Taggart and his friends waiting for her. She is their laugh object. But when Kelly is reading a paper she saw an article about a mr. Taggart who went to prison for 30 years (because of robbing old people). Kerry wants to stop the bullying that?s why she?s starting to blackmail Billy with the information from the paper. Billy promises her that he would never bully her again, and that he would do anything if she wouldn?t show the article at school. The whole school is surprised that he is being nice to her. But than starts a friend of Billy to bully her, he wants his friend Billy back. Kelly has got no idea how to stop his bullying when Billy goes to an other school.
6. The title
I think that the title of the story is well-chosen because the whole story is about bullying, first Kerry is bullied, then Billy is bullied. But I also think that the title isn?t well chosen , the title makes you thinks there?s only one bully, but Kerry starts to bully, Billy back. Because of the last reason I would have chosen an other title for the book, maby something like: ?Pay back?? Kelly is bullied, because of something se found in the paper the is going to pay back Billy
7. Your personal opinion
I liked reading this story, it wasn?t really hard to understand. The story is about something that really could happen, I always like that kind of story?s. I think that a lot of things happen accidentally and that is not very believable that?s what I find less enjoyable. I never read a book that I could compare with this book. I think that other people should read this book because it?s fun to read, it is not a boring book for example. The book is not for adults, I think that they would think the book is childish so I wouldn?t recommend this book to adult, but I would recommend it to teenagers.

Dear diary,
I really don?t understand what I?ve done wrong to Billy and his friends L.
Since day one I went to school they where bullying me, and they wont stop. Mum thinks everything is going great at school and that I?m busy making friends, she is also very happy that I?m walking to school because of my leg. Mum things I?ve mad already much friends, but I don?t. But I?ve made contact. Today I had a conversation with my tutor about that I should go turn again, she said I could help the turning team of the school if I didn?t want to turn myself. After the conversation she brought me home with the car, Jenny saw me and went to my house to talk with me. Mum brought us immediately some cake and tea, she was so happy that someone came over to talk with me. I really hope that we?re going to be friends, it looks fun to me to talk to someone about boys en stuff like that J.
About Billy and Wayne again, it is really bothering me that they are bullying me, I have no idea how I could stop them, well hopefully they stop one day?
I?m going to stop, I?m tired, I?m going to sleep.
Till tomorrow,
Kerry
j. cover of the book
On the cover of the book you can see a girl who is making her homework (or something like that), I think that is Kelly. Around her you can see faces as a mask. I think it look likes they are going all around her. All the faces look very mean, some are laughing. With that you could think that there are a few people being mean to her and the others are laughing about it. The girl on he cover, Kelly, is not looking happy, a bit sad. The cover shows Kelly being bullied I think.
The title of the story is: ?Bully?
