Luke is an 8 years old boy. He lives with his grandmother in Oslo, because his parents died in a car crash when he was 7. But the will of his Father was that Luke and his Grandmother are going to live in England.
Every evening before Luke goes to bed, his grandmother tells Luke stories about witches. His grandmother knows a lot about witches because she used to be a witchophile. A witchophile is someone who hunted witches. She also knows how to recognise witches. You can recognise a witch by: she is always wearing hand gloves because she has cat claws. She is also wearing pointed shoes because she doesn’t have toes. Witches are bold and that’s why they have a wig on their scalp. That’s why they scratching all the time their scalps. In their eyes you can see fire and there spit is bleu. But a very important point is that all witches hate children. They think that children smell like dog droppings. And the job of all witches is letting disappear one child a week.
But Luke doesn’t always believe his grandmother. He thinks that the stories she is telling him are weird and scary.
In the summer vacation his grandmother propose to go on holiday to Oslo again. And Luke likes it very much. But then his grandmother is getting ill. But when she is better Luke and his grandmother can not go to Oslo, doctor’s orders. They are both very mad at the doctor, but then they will go on holiday to a hotel in England. As comfort Luke’s grandmother buys Luke 2 white mice. Luke wants to train them like circus mice. But he can’t find the right place to train. But after a couple of hours searching he finds a ballroom. In the front of the ballroom door is a sign => RSPCC MEETING strictly private this room is reserved for the annual meeting of the royal society for the prevention of cruelty to children.
There are no people in the room only a lot of chairs and a screen. Luke decided to train the mice behind the screen.
After one hour training a lot of women are walking in the room and picking a chair to sit down. Luke can only see the back line of the chairs and the platform where a lady is standing. Luke can see that al the women at the back line are scratching there scalps. He thinks its funny. But then he sees that al that women are wearing gloves and pointed shoes. And then he remembers the stories of his grandmother.
The woman at the platform begins to speak. “Hello, vitches of England” She has a little speaking problem with the “w”. “Take of your gloves, take of your shoes, take of your vigs.” And then Luke sees all witches.
The witch at the platform is the Grand High Witch of all witches. She is very mad at all the witches of England. She thinks that letting disappear one child a week is not enough. Her plan is that all the “vitches” of England must buy a sweetshop. And then they fill the sweeties with Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker. When children eat the sweeties they will turn the next morning at nine o’clock when they are at school into mice. So a lot of more than one child a week will disappear. Then she tells the formula to the witches, an alarm clock, a boiled telescope, a gruntle’s egg, the claw of a crabcruncher, the beak of a blabbersnitch and the snout of a grobblesqvirt are going into the formula. And then the meeting is finished. All the witches are dressing up again but then one of the witches smells dog droppings. And they find Luke. Luke has to drink Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker. And he turned into a mouse. When he is back with his grandmother he has a plan. He steals the Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker sneaks into the kitchen and drop the Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker into the soup from the witches. Everything works and at dinnertime Luke and his grandmother are watching all the witches. They all turn into mice. But Luke is also still a mouse. When he is back at home he is very sad that he will always be a mouse. But his grandmother has a plan as comfort. Luke and she can destroy all witches all over the world.
