The Three Farmers.
Down in the valley there were three farmers: Farmer Boggis, Farmer Bunce and Farmer Bean.
Farmer Boggis He was a chicken farmer; he was a very fat man, because he ate chickens for breakfast lunch and supper. Farmer Bunce He was a duck-and-goose farmer. He was a little fat-bellied dwarf with a bad temper. He ate a lot of donuts and goose livers. Farmer Bean He was a turkey-and-apple farmer. He was a very tall thin man. He never ate any food at all and drank apple-cider instead. He was the cleverest of them all.
Mr. Fox.
On a hill above the valley there was a wood. In the wood there was a hill with a very big tree on top. Under the tree was a hole and there lived Mr. Fox with his family he had a wife and four children. Every night he crawls out of his hole and wends his way to one of the farms to collect his supper. He always stood with his nose in the wind so he could smell that he was in danger. The tree farmers weren?t happy with it. The three farmers had a wonderful idea. They wanted to shoot Mr. Fox. So they hide behind a tree with their noses in the wind so Mr. Fox can?t smell them. And they waited until Mr. Fox came out of his hole to get his supper. And then they shot him but didn?t quite get him, they only shot his tail of .
The Terrible Shovels.
The three farmers wanted him so badly that they get their shovels and wanted to dig him out.
But Mr. Fox and his family were digging to escape from the farmers. And they succeed.
The farmers could dig any more and so they went to get their tractors to get to the foxes.
Now there began a desperate race, the machines against the foxes. The foxes could keep up with the tractors but the foxes did succeed. At six o?clock in the evening, Bean switched off the motor of his tractor. It was no use digging anymore. Then came the idea to starve him out.
The three farmers had plenty of food with them and the foxes can smell it. The little foxes were starving.
Mr. Fox has a Plan.
For three days and three night?s this waiting game went on. But the foxes can?t hold out so long without food and water. Mr. Fox was very still for a long time. He was thinking very deeply, he developed a very great plan. Mr. Fox wanted to dig his way to food back at the farms. He started digging in a special way. After a few hours he started digging up until he felt wood under his paws. He moved a plank and we was in Boggie?s chicken house number one. He grabed a few chickens and went off leaving the chicken house as he found it.
The small fox ran back the tunnel as fast as he could, carrying the three plump hens. He could not wait to get to his mother to see the look on her face.
Badger.
Mr. Fox and the three remaining small foxes dug fast and straight. They ran up to the badger who was also starving just like the other animals that lived down there. Mr. Fox invaited them all over dinner. They were digging the new tunnel. The badger was a great digger and the tunnel went forward at a terrific pace now that he was lending a paw. They were in fact directly underneath the most interesting part of the farm, ducks and geese. They climbed through the floor by moving a floorboard. They were now in the room above. They took a couple of ducks, geese and carrots for the rabbits and they rushed off. They were going to Bean. Badger has doubts, because he thought they were stealing. When they pulled a brick away they saw Rat he was mean and drunk. He said it was his cellar and they have got to go. But Mr. Fox threatens to eat him. The rat popped back fast out of sight. Once they were in sight the smallest fox took a sip of the cider and so did the rest of them. They heard someone come down the stairs and they hide. They almost get caught. Then the woman was gone and they took a couple of jars of cider and got away as quickly as they could.
The Great Feast
Back in the tunnel they took a pause and Mr. Fox put the brick back at his place. They hushed back and they sang a little song as they run.
They were still singing as they rounded the final corner and burst in upon the most wonderful and amazing sight any of them had ever seen. The feast was just beginning. A large dining-room had been hollowed out of the earth, and in the middle of it, seated around a huge table, were no less than twenty-nine animals. They were:
Mrs. Fox and three Small Foxes.
Mrs. Badger and three Small Badgers.
Mole and Mrs. Mole and four Small Moles.
Rabbit and Mrs. Rabbit and five Small Rabbits.
Weasel and Mrs. Weasel and six Small weasels.
The table was covered with chickens and ducks and geese and hams and bacon, and everyone was tucking into the lovely food.
And the lived happily ever after.
My Opinion
It was a good book whit a good story. It wasn?t difficult to read.
It was fun to read because I like children?s books. I got help from a fellow student, Geaullie.
