Content:
This book is about a boy named Jack. He and his mother are very poor. Because they are very poor Jacks mother says: ?Tomorrow you must take our poor cow to the market and sell her?.
The next morning Jack gets up early and set off for market, with the cow. He met a butcher who asked him where he was going to with the cow. Jack tells him that he takes the cow to the market. The butcher asks if he wants to exchange his magic beans for his cow. Jack wants that.
When he is back home again he told what he has done to his mother and she is very angry with him. She said: ,, Now we shall surely starve!?
The next morning it was very dark in his room. He sees that outside is a large tree in the garden. But it was not a tree it is a huge beanstalk. The beanstalk is very big, you cannot see the top. The beanstalk ends in a hole other world. There was a woman, she said that he and his mother are very poor because the stuff that is upstairs the beanstalk are from his Father who is dead.
And the woman says that she was the butcher who exchanged the magic beans for the cow. Jack goes directly upstairs and sees a castle and knocked on the door. The woman that he had met opens the door. He may come in. He received a plate with food. The man of the wife comes in. Jack must hide very quickly. The giant says that he smells the blood of an Englishman. The wife says it can not be gives him a plate with food. When Jack goes to his home again he takes a bag with money with him with a lot of money from the castle. He gives the money to his mother and explains to her what he has done. Mother is very happy but doesn?t want that he goes upstairs the beanstalk again.
The second time when he goes upstairs the woman didn?t recognize him again and she gives him again a plate with food. Again the giant comes and he says again that he smells the blood of an Englishman. Jack hide again and when he goes to home he takes a chicken who lays golden eggs with him. He told it to his mother and she is very happy because she is not poor anymore and because she haves a chicken who legs golden eggs.
He goes again upstairs, when he is at the castle the woman opens again but didn?t recognize him and lets him in again and gives him a plate with food. Again the giant says that he smells the blood of an Englishman. Jack hides again. The wife says again that he is wrong and give him fast a plate with food. When Jack goes home again he takes a golden harp with him. But the harp didn?t want to go with hem and yells very hard: help?. The giant wakes up and heard the golden harp yell. The giant follows Jack. Jack wants to go very fast, to climb down the beanstalk and the giant is following him again, when he did that he falls, Jack's mother sees that and she is very happy because everything is alright with Jack. He shows the harp to his mother and she is very happy because she haves a beautiful harp and the giant is dead.
Jack doesn?t go anymore to the world upstairs the beanstalk and she is very happy.
My own opinion: I didn?t like the book very much, because I don?t like fairy-tails. But I liked the way the book was spoken on a tape at school. I don?t like to that she always says again the same. The book is not very difficult.
