Boekverslag: A View from the Bridge
The stories are actually written plays with a lot of drama and unexpected turns in the story.
I think the stories are rather realistic and a person who actually sees everything in the whole situation writes them.
The most important character in the first story is Eddie he is Catherine’s uncle who takes care of her.
The most important character in the second story is Cris Keller, he is in love with the ex girlfriend of his dead brother and he finally marries her which is a drama for his mother who still believes that Larry would return.
A few from the bridge:
Eddie is a guy who lives in a small house in a small town with a large harbour where he works. He is married with Beatrix. They don’t have children but they take care of the daughter of Eddie’s nephew. Who is dead and so is his wife. Catherine is a smart girl who studies for stenographic. She had just changed her look and she just has got a job offer from a large firm in town. Eddie is getting two Italians in their house who are faro relatives. They come to make a lot of money and to built up a own living.
The names of the nephews are Marco and Rudolpho. Marco is married and has some children but his wife is still in Italy and he will sent her some money which he makes in America. After a few weeks it becomes clear that Rudolpho and Catherine are in love together, but Eddie don’t like Rudolpho and when he heard it he became furious. Beatrix becomes furious about Eddie and calms him. There is another man in the play Alferi, he’s a lawyer and he gives some advise to Eddie. The reason why Eddie is mad is that he had promised to take care of Catherine and he considers Rudolpho as a thief because he “took” Catherine. But Catherine is 18 and she can decide for her self and beatrix understands that. Rudolpho en Marco work very hard for their money and they try `to be helpful but Eddie acts very strange. Rudolpho and Caterine decided to get married and when he hears that he decided to make a call to the immigration service and turn both of the Italians in. Every one seemed to know that so everyone is against Eddie even Beatrix and Catherine when the Italians came back to grab their stuff Eddie gets crazy and however Rudolpho apologises he attacked both of the Italians with a knife butt Marco killed him earlier and that was what he deserved
All my sons:
Joe Keller lives in small town in the forest with some other great friends like the Lubbey’s and the doctor Jim. Cris is Joe Kellers son and he has just returned from the war. Kate is Joe’s wife and they have one son, they used to have two sons but one is killed in the war. His name was Larry and he had a girlfriend tree years ago, her name was Annie. Annie now lives in New York and she would like to go back to the small town were Cris lives. She came back with a special reason: Cris, she was in love with Cris and Cris was in love with her. They Kissed and after a few days they wanted to marry each other. When Cris told the affair to his father and mother his mother went totally crazy. She always thought that Annie still believed that Larry was alive and that she would still loved him just as she does herself. But it was rather the opposite because she was in love with Cris. The brother of Annie had been to their father who was in jail. George (Annie’s brother) also came down to the village for a few days. When he was there he seemed very nice and they caught some old memories together because George and Annie lived in the village too. But someday George changed and didn’t seemed so nice anymore, especially for the Keller’s. his father used to work with Joe but during the war something happened and a lot of people were killed. And now his father was actually not guilty in jail. So actually Joe did it, but nobody believed that. The coming of Joe was rather confusing because everyone hated Steve for what he seemed to have done, but now Joe is guilty. Then George had a letter, that was written by Larry. In the letter Larry had written that he should commit suicide, when Kate heard that she went totally crazy and when she heard about Joe she got too confused. After a heavy fight between George and Cris, Annie told George to leave and when he left Joe committed suicide.
